Mission Statement

The Glacier Society is dedicated to the preservation and redeployment of the historic vessel, the USS/USCGC Glacier. The Glacier will be a living museum honoring the men and women who served in the exploration of the North and South Poles. Both in port and while underway, the Glacier Society's humanitarian efforts will provide for a unique educational resource dedicated to environmental education, marine science and the medical community.

  • Promote Public Awareness of the history and future of Arctic and Antarctic Exploration;

  • Educate the public on Polar Environmental Science and Global Warming;

  • Provide a Leadership and Character Building Platform for our Youth;

  • Serve as a Learning Museum for K-12 students, offering education programs for the betterment of the community;

  • Serve as a floating Scientific Platform for university students, as well as conducting post-graduate and Adult Learning Programs at sea using state-of-the-art interactive technology;

  • Serve as an example of the 'Best of America in Action': military services, science, government and citizens working together for the common good;
